Supply chains are a crucial aspect of waging war. Without food, ammunition, clothing, fuel and reinforcements, an army’s ability to wage war will quickly diminish and disintegrate. This is why modern US military doctrine tends to generally target supply routes and depots, as well as factories, bridges and other important parts of the military-industrial infrastructure. Destroying an army’s ability to wage war therefore is better than being able to defeat an army in head on battle, because it can win a war before it’s even started, and minimize casualties and collateral damage for both sides.
So how do we improve supply chains, and insulate them from destruction by the enemy?
