Indonesia’s archipelago consists of over 17,500 islands, of which 6,000 are inhabited. It is also the 4th most populated nation on the planet, with nearly 300 million people in 2019. An invasion of this country would be a nightmare, making the jungles of Vietnam look like child’s play in comparison, as not only would there be jungle warfare, but there would be jungle warfare across thousands of islands separated by water, meaning that watercraft and aircraft would have to penetrate each island, each time, making it a logistical nightmare for invading forces, but also for defending forces. Waterways are also easy to defend and prone to ambush. As such, according to it’s terrain, the Indonesian military and it’s doctrine should revolve around mimicking the Komodo dragon: A stealthy yet hard hitting beast with enough power to out-wrestle a grown man.
